Heal.thy Self Co Cafe

This post comes to you filled with overwhelming pride and undeniable bias, as one of my closest friends and her gorgeous partner take a giant leap towards their dreams and open the doors of Heal.thySelfCo cafe in Yarraville.

The decor is light, bright and airy, a perfect contrast to Melbourne’s dark and stormy weather; and the food focuses on health and wellness.
Heal.thySelfCo cafe is delivering the best nature has to offer without compromising on taste. Think deliciously flavoursome cold pressed juices (from $7) and warm organic soup ($12) to banish leftover winter sniffles. Crowd pleasing avo toast ($10) or acai bowl ($10) and my personal favourite the grounded granola bowl with almond milk and coconut yoghurt ($10).

And as the excited locals pop in and out of this new cafe the ethos is clear. This cafe is about enabling people in their everyday lives to move towards wellness while enjoying delicious food produced by people with abundant passion and enthusiasm for life.

Enjoy.

Lau Pa Sat Market Singapore. Amazing.

Lau Pa Sat formerly known as Telok Ayer Market is an the iconic 120-year-old market turned food centre in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District. This place has always been the culinary highlight of my trips to Singapore. Undergoing a 4million dollar facelift since my last visit the now new and improved layout has cleaned up the place without loosing the charm of the original Victorian-era filigreed cast-iron structure. Satay is a must on any visit.

Newton Food Centre, also widely known in Singapore as Newton Circus, is perpetually packed with locals and tourists alike. Besides great cheap food and pulsating atmosphere, it is also a great place to people-watch. I can’t resist a deliberate stop over in Singapore to savour this melting pot of Asian cuisines.

Reminiscing on some of my best meals in Turkey and I keep coming back to this meal of traditional, soulful meze at Çukur Meyhane.

Please don’t be deterred by our half eaten plates or the humble exterior of this restaurant because this place is what eating is all about. The food is unpretentious and appears misleadingly simple however it nails every single flavour to the point of audible Mmmmm’s as we devoured every crumb on each plate.
Hidden one block back from the main drag in Istanbul, the locals congregate here over bottles of wine and raki. For me this is how food was meant to be enjoyed; people start with one or two plates and slowly order more as the night progresses. There appears to be no urgency in the groups, no one has anywhere else to be and they are simply there to enjoy great conversation and great food.
Order whatever you like off this concise menu as everything we ate was flavour filled and orgasmic. Try and catch a table on the street to watch the passers by and most importantly remember to bring your friends and fellow travels to share this with.

Late night food acquired on a walk around the small town of Olympos at 4am. It was a small shop front only serving one thing… Kebabs. I had a few mouthfuls of this deliciously over seasoned meat however didn’t go the full kebab as it was a bit stringy and I couldn’t place the grey meat. Needless to say the mates I was with devoured what in hindsight was an offal kebab.

This is what happens when you can’t read Turkish. With a little help from google I now know Kokoreç is a dish of the Balkans and Anatolia consisting mainly of lamb or goat intestines…

And icky as it sounds it was tasty.
